About us

Martlets is a firm of probate genealogists, with offices in Kent and Merseyside.  We are experts at tracing missing beneficiaries entitled to share in unclaimed estates.

Martlets prides itself on having a small but highly expert staff with a combined experience of sixty years as professional probate genealogists.  Our founder directors, Ian Larmer and Mark Sleat have all been in the profession since the early 1990s and have wide ranging knowledge and experience.  We also employ a network of UK and overseas agents, supplemented by an extensive company archive.

The Martlet is a heraldic symbol reflecting the company’s roots in Sussex. It also symbolises a determined and vigorous search for knowledge and learning, qualities employed by us in our approach to research and case work.

Being a small firm with considerably lower overheads than our larger competitors, Martlets can provide a complete and cost effective solution to locating missing beneficiaries, particularly where the estate is modest or funds are limited.

If you are a solicitor instructing us to trace a missing heir or if we have contacted you as a potential claimant to an estate, we hope that you will approve our expertise and the quality of service we offer as a company.
